The Carlton Mid Cairns Amateurs Carnival has launched a range of innovative new event packages, each carefully curated to provide patrons with an unforgettable experience at Far North Queensland’s most iconic annual celebration of racing.

Headlining the exciting new offerings is the introduction of the Cairns Amateurs Birdcage, a premium marquee catering for large parties and smaller corporate groups. The Cairns Amateurs Birdcage provides all the glamour of the famed Cairns Amateurs Aviary, but for the first time allowing individuals to purchase tickets into this exclusive area with a superior all-inclusive package of gourmet canapés created by Cairns’ award-winning Ochre restaurant, and premium beverages.

Located centerfield just past the finishing post, the Birdcage will see guests rub shoulders with local celebrities and racing royalty as they soak up the colourful trackside atmosphere of this unique event in exceptional style, with clients, friends or colleagues.

In 2016, Cairns Amateurs also introduces a raft of exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences, where participants will be granted a rare glimpse of the heart-stopping race from an entirely new perspective.

Patrons can even have their photo taken with the Cairns Amateurs trophy as they share in the jockeys’ anticipation at theMounting Yard Meet and Greet, or book a special VIP tour where they will either venture Behind the Barriers, to hear the crash of the starting barriers as they fly open to the roar of the crowd; or join Queensland’s finest race caller David Fowler in the highest perch above the track to gain unique first-hand insight into a photo finish, as part of the Call Box Action tour.

Cairns Amateurs Carnival CEO Graham Thornton said the new experiences would bring an extra special new dimension to the carnival’s already impressive calendar of social events.

“We are delighted to present these new experiences which showcase the Carnival as a vibrant, social event bringing all the thrill of horse racing to the community of the Far North,” Mr Thornton said.

“The new Cairns Amateurs Birdcage is proving very popular with businesses across the region who will be able to take advantage of this very special opportunity to entertain clients and colleagues in five-star style, at one of the country’s premier spring racing carnivals.”

The new roster of VIP meet and greet sessions and behind-the-scenes tours are set to create lasting memories for racing aficionados and first timers alike, as they meet industry movers and shakers and experience a different side of Cannon Park.

Guests at the exclusive Mounting Yard Meet and Greet on Cairns Amateurs Ladies Day will mingle with sponsors and VIPs, including Cairns Amateurs Carnival Ambassador and prominent Australian equestrian and media personality, Jo McKinnon, while enjoying a selection of brunch canapés and beverages.

Tipsters Steve Hawkins and Tony Clements will also share their knowledge and selections at the session, which includes a behind the scenes peek at the jockeys’ weigh-in area to hear all about the day’s racing ahead – almost straight from the horse’s mouth.

Guests booking Behind the Barriers or Call Box Action tours will join a small group to share the most exhilarating aspects of racing, while also enjoying a post-tour complimentary drink on the exclusive tropical veranda.

Cairns Amateurs Carnival will be held from Thursday 8 September to Saturday 10 September at Cannon Park Race Course, Cairns.
