190A9263-1_LDWith just four months until Christmas, American Express today launched the American Express ExplorerTM Credit Card designed to help get Australians to their next holiday destination faster.

According to new insights from American Express, Christmas getaways to the cooler climates of Aspen, Whistler and the Northern Lights in Yellowknife top the destination list, with Vancouver and New York City not far behind.

With around 9.7 million[i] Australian residents heading overseas for short-term trips in the last year, and departures continuing to overtake arrivals[ii], travel is clearly a passion on the rise for Australians.

Alongside benefits such as an annual $400 travel credit, travel and car rental insurance and airport lounge access, the Explorer Credit Card comes with an introductory offer of 100,000 Membership Reward Points. These points alone could take you to Hong Kong, Singapore, Los Angeles, San Francisco or Queenstown[iii] this festive season.

Austin Huntsdale, Vice President Consumer Products for American Express Australia & New Zealand, said: “The majority of our Card Members use their Membership Rewards points for travel, either to pay for a portion or the entire cost of their holiday. Of those who book their trip atAmerican Express Travel Online, 66 per cent convert their points to air travel, followed by hotels at 32 per cent.”

With an accelerated rate to earn points and $400 travel credit each year, we’ve designed the American Express Explorer card for those who want to get to their next holiday sooner.”

This year, other top destinations in demand include; US hotspots Los Angeles and Miami, and European getaway destinations London and Rome. Asia also features in 2016, with Singapore and Hong Kong still popular, alongside domestic locations Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane continuing to attract those wanting a staycation.

Interestingly, countries most on the rise for hot destination requests include some unexpected locations such as Bhutan, Montenegro, and Myanmar, as well as firm favourites Japan and South Africa.

All American Express Explorer Card Members have access to all three digital wallets – Android Pay, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay – with smartphone screen insurance also included with the card.
