Americas hotel results for July 2014

The Americas region recorded positive results in the three key performance metrics when reported in U.S. dollars during July 2014, according to data compiled by STR and STR Global.
Compared July 2013, the Americas region reported a 3.6-percent increase in occupancy to 73.2 percent, a 4.8-percent increase in average daily rate to US$119.81 and an 8.5-percent increase in revenue per available room to US$87.76.

Among the key markets in the region, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, reported the largest increase in occupancy during July, rising 18.4 percent to 80.2 percent. The market was one of the host cities of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which was held 12 June to 13 July 2014. Santiago, Chile, fell 13.2 percent in occupancy to 59.8 percent, reporting the largest decrease in that metric.

Rio de Janeiro (+70.1 percent to US$325.65) and Sao Paulo, Brazil (+30.3 percent to US$169.32), achieved the largest ADR growth for the month. Santiago (-5.3 percent to US$146.20) reported the largest ADR decrease during July.

Rio de Janeiro increased 101.4 percent in RevPAR to US$261.24, experiencing the largest increase in that metric, followed by Sao Paulo (+31.3 percent to US$106.38). Santiago reported the largest RevPAR decrease, falling 17.8 percent to US$87.50.
