Americas hotel results for May

The Americas region recorded positive results in the three key performance metrics when reported in U.S. dollars during May 2013, according to data compiled by STR and STR Global.

In May, the Americas region reported a 1.2-percent increase in occupancy to 64.0 percent, a 3.5-percent rise in average daily rate to US$111.69 and a 4.7-percent growth in revenue per available room to US$71.48.

Among the key markets in the region, Sao Paulo, Brazil, rose 6.1 percent in occupancy to 68.6 percent, posting the largest increase in that metric. Panama City, Panama, followed with a 5.4-percent increase in occupancy to 53.0 percent. Santiago, Chile, fell 8.4 percent in occupancy to 65.1 percent, reporting the largest decrease in that metric.

Mexico City, Mexico, achieved the largest ADR increase, rising 9.7 percent to US$133.63. Panama City reported the only double-digit ADR decrease, falling 10.1 percent to US$110.08.

San Francisco, California, reported the largest RevPAR increase, rising 11.4 percent to US$152.39, followed by Montreal, Canada (+9.3 percent to US$98.46), and Mexico City (+9.0 percent to 83.95). Buenos Aires, Argentina, fell 11.2 percent in RevPAR to US$70.98, reporting the only double-digit decrease in that metric.
