The Extraordinary Moonlight Dinner, a charity event for UNICEF was successfully held at Cloud Nine Terrace of The St. Regis Bali Resort last Saturday, 15 October 2016.
The dinner was a joint event by The St. Regis Bali Resort and The Laguna, A Luxury Collection Resort & Spa in support of the UNICEF Check out for Children program. UNICEF started the COFC program to help raise funds for the world’s most vulnerable children in partnership with Starwood Hotels and Resorts for over 20 years. Over $35M has been raised since the program began.
Presenting 6 Chefs; Agung Ardiawan of The St. Regis Bali Resort, Made Putra of The Laguna Resort & Spa, Farah Quinn, Kevin Cherkas of Cuca Jimbaran, Maurizio Bombini of Mandapa a Ritz Carlton Reserve and Mandif Warokka of Teatro Gastroteque, the event started with a press conference held at the Astor Ballroom of The St. Regis Bali Resort, where the Chefs shared their insights and excitement at being involved in such a wonderful event in support of this good cause.
The Extraordinary Moonlight Dinner started with a pre-dinner cocktail overlooking the beautiful beach of The St. Regis Bali Resort. While enjoying cocktails and canapés at the wonderful venue, guests were entertained with a special fashion show from John Hardy Jewellery, presenting their Bamboo Collection, where each piece has been hand crafted from 100% reclaimed gold and silver.
The dinner opened with a speech from Lucia Liu, Hotel Manager of The St. Regis Bali Resort, representing the two resorts. And continued with a foreword from Charlie Hartono Lie, Philanthropy Manager of UNICEF Indonesia. The six-course dinner began with an Amuse-bouche “Kemangi” cured salmon by Chef Made Putra made of tamarind pearl, salty lime, kemangi sherbet and begonia petals. Chef Farah Quinn presented Grilled tiger prawns on tomato beef cheek carpaccio, carambola – shallot relish, shaved bonito and micro coriander. Chef Maurizio Bombini presented Poached barramundi filet with Jerusalem artichoke, kaffir lime and anchovy powder. The feast continued with Chef Kevin Cherkas’ signature dish of Black Squid Risotto of hand cut squid grains, vegetable stew, garlic cream and popped rice. While Chef Mandif Warokka presented 21 Days Wagyu Prime Ribs with smoked green chili “sambal”, braised young jack fruit and cassava mousseline. The dinner concluded with a sweet dessert of Jivara milk chocolate tart by Chef Agung Ardiawan from exotic cremeux, licorice meringue and passion fruit sorbet. During the dinner, guests were entertained by the soulful jazz performance of Lisa Riung or Lisa Soul, an emerging Indonesian Jazz Singer, to perfectly complement the unforgettable evening.
To further support the fundraising efforts of the evening, a number of exciting items were auctioned, including hotel stays vouchers from The St. Regis Singapore, The Hermitage Hotel Jakarta, Bali Safari & Marine Park, W Retreat & Spa Bali, Keraton at The Plaza Hotel Jakarta, an activities voucher from Air Bali and Waka Sailing, an exquisite wine decanter from Riedel, diamond studded pearl earrings from Atlas Pearl as well as a set of John Hardy Bamboo Gold & Silver necklace and ring from John Hardy. The auction was led by auctioneer, Jack Daniels of Bali Discovery Tours.
A raffle was held for guests to win some premium prizes such as a stay voucher from The St. Regis Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi, Suiran Luxury Collection Hotel Kyoto, The Naka Island Luxury Collection Resort & Spa Phuket, The Andaman Luxury Collection Hotel Langkawi, Sheraton Senggigi Beach Resort Lombok, dinner at Blanco par Mandiff Ubud, treatment voucher from Jari Menari Nusa Dua, voucher from Paul Ropp as well as bottles of premium wine from PT. Kaybee Interindo and Bali Buana Cakra. Raffle tickets were sold at IDR150,000 each and all proceeds donated to UNICEF.
Closing the event, a Certificate of Appreciation was presented by Helmut Pluecker, Managing Director of The St. Regis Bali Resort and The Laguna Resort & Spa to the six chefs for their valuable effort in supporting this event. The evening was brought to a close with Lisa Soul performing “We Are The World”, marking an unforgettable evening where approximately over USD20,000 was raised from dinner sales, raffle ticket and auction items sales of which all goes towards providing clean drinking water and proper sanitation facilities to children and families across Asia and the Pacific.
