An Interview with Mr Pham Ha, Founder and CEO of Luxury Travel, Vietnam’s Leading Tour Operator’

After being established 10 years ago, Luxury Travel Ltd. (www.luxurytravels.asia) has become a market leader in the Vietnamese tourism industry and has won numerous travel awards.

In 2014 Luxury Travel received a nomination in ‘Vietnam’s Leading Tour Operator’ category at the 2014 World Travel Awards, also known as the ‘Oscars’ of the travel industry.  On this occasion, E Global Travel Media took the opportunity to have an interview with Mr Pham Ha.

Luxury Travel is known as Vietnam’s first luxury tour operator targeting luxury travelers.What was the main strategy behind this business idea?

In 2004, when I started Luxury Travel,my business idea was deemed to be rather risky, even by my friends who were working in the same field. Was Vietnam ready for this new game-changing direction into the luxury travel segment?

However, I always knew that I needed a new business direction in order to be successful and I could see that there was a gap in the market. By establishing Luxury Travel led the way with a new strategy in business development and a unique product.

I did some brainstorming and developed my travel business plan, which is still fresh after 10 years, and came up with a lot of potential ideas, which I then realized together with my co-workers who already had many years of experience in the business.

In the last 10 years I have focused on building and developing a unique and exclusive brand which became known as“Vietnam’s first luxury tour operator “. Hard work has resulted in Luxury Travel becoming a leading tour operator in Vietnam thanks to its reputation for quality luxury service for both inbound and outbound customers.

What, in your opinion, is the biggest challenge in the luxury travel business?

In my opinion, working in the field of luxury travel is the most fulfilling job in the world. We provide a superior service for the most sophisticated customers, are at tentive to their needs, and provide the “wow factor” with our carefully designed tours. We have staff who understand our customers’ individual interests, habits, needs and expectations and it is their job to make sure they provide memorable experiences for the most discerning travelers who, in most cases, are themselves very well traveled.

Our staff, fondly known as “Luxers”, are professionally trained to serve the most demanding customers. They believe in themselves and are proud of working for the company and in the luxury travel industry. Their positive attitude is key to making customers happy.

As fas as I know, a business man in,for example, the beauty industry ensures his staff regularly experience the services in spas and resorts to learn how to better serve their customers. Do you have a similar policy in your company?

I have a lot of experience of luxury hotels, resorts and cruises and understand how a luxury travel business should be run. By joining the tours of other luxury operators around the world, I have studied how they ‘go the extra mile’ for the most discerning travelers. Then I share that experience with the Luxury Travel team in order to help them put themselves in their clients’ position to better understand their requirements. In addition, our staff also have opportunities to go on cruises and experience luxury hotels and resorts to ensure they know how to create the perfect tour, one to suit the customers’ particular requirements. As a result, we have 99% satisfied customers and are currently working towards achieving 100% satisfaction.

In April 2014 Luxury Travel received a nomination in‘Vietnam’s Leading Tour Operator’ category at the 2014 World Travel Awards. Could you share with us some more insights on this good news?

Representing Vietnam,we were nominated for the World Travel Awards 2014,also known as the ‘Oscars’ of the travel industry. The award reflects the leading role and experience we have achieved and  acknowledges the efforts of our company in the development of luxury tourism in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. This nomination, on the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Luxury Travel, is an enormous boost for our Luxury Family. Our mission is to continue to create memorable travel experiences and to strive to improve the travel experience in Vietnam with new travel projects

After 10 years in the business, Luxury Travel Ltd. (www.luxurytravels.asia) is known as Vietnam’s first luxury tour operator. Could you tell us your secret of how Luxury Travel became as successful as it is today?

2013 was a difficult year for many businesses, but Luxury Travel’s revenues increased up to 30%, and the company is still expanding into new markets. Our company aims to increase its revenue by up to 58% in 2014 by staying at the cutting edge of luxury travel and continuing to lead the way with new developments.

And the last question.As you are so busy with running your business, how do you manage your free time?

I tend to spend time relaxing, enjoying recreational activities with my family and simply enjoying my life after office hours, at the weekend or whenever I feel stressed. I usually play badminton with my two boys, go to the gym every day, play tennis and golf, walk around Hoan Kiem Lake, cycle home after work, drink beer with friends at a bar, such as the Metropole Hanoi or the Sunset bar in the Intercontinental, or enjoy a seafood meal and a glass of beer on the street. Once in a while, I have morning coffee alone, just to think. At times, I head out with my camera and take beautiful pictures or drop by the bookstore to buy some new books on leadership, professional sales, marketing and PR.I am also interested in everything related to golf and am always keen to learn more about the sport as well as the beautiful greens here in Vietnam and around the world.
