Spread the love

ANA InterContinental Tokyo is delighted to present Strawberry Sensations: Season of Love at nine of the hotel’s restaurants and bars, from 15 January through 31 March 2019. In the spirit of Japan’s vibrant strawberry season, we invite you to discover, savour and relish the many facets of love. Our chefs and their teams have crafted delectable food and delightful drinks inspired by what love means to them.

As described in titles such as “Sweethearts” Strawberry and Ruby Chocolate Dessert Buffet (at The Champagne Bar), Your First Love” Strawberry Afternoon Tea Set (at ATRIUM Lounge), or White Strawberry in Love” Afternoon Tea (at Club InterContinental Lounge), each product has been assigned to a specific “theme” or a type of love. The aim of this is to create a different atmosphere at each outlet, thus encouraging guests to try more of our offerings. The “kawaii” style will continue to be our hero theme as it has the strongest connection with our main target audience – young, Japanese females. However, by adopting a variety of different themes, we hope to capture ancillary demographics as well as appealing to our regular “non-kawaii” customers.

For international guests, this Strawberry Sensations could also be the best way to experience the high quality of Japanese strawberries, which tend to be sweeter than those grown in other countries. In the Sweethearts Strawberry and Ruby Chocolate Dessert Buffet, a tasting corner features five of the famous varieties of strawberries cultivated in Japan (such as Amaou, Saga Honoka, Tochi Otome, Sachinoka, Beni Hoppe, Kirapica or Yumenoka) in addition to the strawberry and ruby chocolate items. Eighteen pieces of premium White Strawberries are used in the “White Strawberry in Love” Afternoon Tea, which is yet another example of how these heart-shaped fruits can be served as luxury food items within the Japanese market.

Furthermore, the Ruby Chocolate introduced in the Sweethearts Strawberry and Ruby Chocolate Dessert Buffet is the world’s newest form of chocolate. Developed and created in 2017 by Belgian-Swiss cocoa company, Barry Callebaut, the slightly spicy and totally natural chocolate does not contain any berries, fruit flavours, colourants or genetically-modified ingredients. Callebaut claims that ruby chocolate owes its smoky-rose colour and distinctive taste solely to the “expert selection and meticulous processing of the ruby beans”. The tangy ruby flavour is one of intense fruitiness, with fresh and sour notes, described as completely unlike dark chocolate, closer to that of white chocolate but more complex.

Love is a universal experience that exists in many different forms. Our Strawberry Sensations: Season of Love promotion aims to capture the wonderful feelings of love – the positive connotations – and channel it through our R&B offerings. The colours red and pink are commonly associated with both love and strawberries, making the theming of our outlets easy and effective, while also creating a photogenic and “kawaii” environment where our guests can enjoy posing for and taking photos. “Love” is also a key theme during the important sweet-related days that fall within our promotional period, such as Valentine’s Day (14 February) and White Day (14 March). During this ‘Season of Love’, we encourage you to savour each and every bite a little bit longer, to drink a little deeper and to toast those you care about the most as we celebrate the most powerful of all human emotions.
