Andaz Maui at Wailea taking reservations, but no guarantee it will be open next month

Andaz Maui at Wailea is accepting reservations for stays beginning Aug. 15, but there is no guarantee the luxury resort will actually be open by then.

A resort spokesperson told me there is still a lot of construction to be done on the $90 million redevelopment of the 15-acre property.

So what will happen to guests with reservations if the hotel — a joint venture between Hyatt Hotels Corp. (NYSE: H) and property owner Starwood Capital Group — is not yet open? I am still waiting to hear back from the resort spokesperson.

Meanwhile, I was able to start the process of booking a room for the resort’s opening weekend, Aug. 15-18, on its website, at a starting rate of $409 per night.

The resort spokesperson told me back in May that the hotel was accepting reservations for stays beginning Sept. 15, but that an exact opening date prior to then had not been yet.
