Chairman of Carnival Australia, Ann Sherry, delivered a keynote speech at the 2018 Chief Executive Women’s Annual Dinner held in Sydney last night.

Considered one of the most prestigious events in Australia’s corporate calendar, and Chief Executive Women’s (CEW) most important fundraising event, the dinner was attended by more than 1,000 business professionals and media. Funds from the event are used to support the scholarships and programs run by CEW to enable more women leaders in Australia.

Ann Sherry’s speech focused on the theme of change, and addressed the significance of a business’s ethical framework for maintaining trust and guiding decision-making.

“Inclusion has to be a core value within an organisation and being inclusive means offering people the same opportunities, regardless of gender or culture,” she said. “Over the years I have valued inclusiveness in my businesses and it has had significant results,” she added.

The speech also addressed recent issues of sexism, and the power of social media as a communication channel that democratises information. Sherry encouraged women leaders to utilise these mediums for change.

“Australia is a place of opportunity and plenty, with so much more potential than is often realised,” she said. “We all need to be change makers to achieve gender equality, cultural diversity, indigenous recognition and inclusion. It’s time to stand up and speak out,” she added.
