Announcement: Longsong Melbourne launches

October 28, 2017 Dining No Comments Email Email

A long-awaited project conceived by John & Lisa van Haandel in collaboration with David Moyle, Longsong is announced.

A great bar with good food, Longsong is located above its big brother restaurant Longrain, on Melbourne’s enduring Little Bourke Street. Longsong comes to life within one of Melbourne’s most distinctive and special spaces – a second story horse stable, last used in the mid-1900s.

Behind the food is David Moyle, of Franklin in Tasmania, and long-time family friend and collaborator of John & Lisa van Haandel from previous engagements at Circa and The Pacific Dining Room. Moyle has conceived a delicious menu composed of wood grilled, barbequed proteins and vegetables, delicious snacks and refreshing salads to match an eclectic drinks list – which represents a score of different primary producers, brewers, mixers and makers – from tapped wine barrels to bespoke spirits. A strong focus on a sustainable produce is evident throughout the offerings.

With exposed brick walls, soaring loft ceilings and original stable floors, the dramatic light-filled bar is set to present a comfortable, fresh and light-hearted offering designed to be a more casual compliment to the restaurant below. Longsong itself is accessed using the original ramp horses would ascend each evening.

The contemporary update of the space – which retains many of its original fascinating features – has been a project years in the making, with careful consideration taken throughout each element, and every detail.

For patrons looking to enjoy a bustling, convivial atmosphere with much to eat, drink, discover and discuss – Longsong provides endless nooks, tiny tables, bar seats and dining areas to do exactly so.

“We set about to transform the incredible space above Longrain, creating a new, casual and relaxed bar atmosphere with a lighter palate than many Melbourne offering.  Longsong is a little bit punk, a little bit rebel, a little bit street. It’s Longrain’s naughty little brother. We are all very excited to open”, says John van Haandel.

Longsong officially opens to the public, Friday November 3rd 2017.
Operating hours are 4pm until late, 7 days a week.
