The Asia Pacific hotel development pipeline comprises 2,321 hotels totalling 516,261 rooms, according to the April 2014 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report.

The under contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.

In 2014, 430 hotels have opened in the region with 81,224 rooms. In the remainder of 2014, 497 hotels are expected to open with 98,513 rooms. The Upscale segment is projected to open the most rooms with 23,084 rooms in 113 hotels. Three other segments expect to add more than 15,000 rooms in the remainder of 2014: the Upper Upscale segment (18,524 rooms in 68 hotels); the Unaffiliated segment (17,194 rooms in 110 hotels); and the Luxury segment (15,525 rooms in 52 hotels).

In 2015, 139,480 rooms in 600 hotels are expected to open in the region. The most rooms are expected to open in the Upscale segment (41,554 rooms in 179 hotels); the Upper Upscale segment (31,859 rooms in 117 hotels); and the Unaffiliated segment (23,118 rooms in 111 hotels).

Please note: STR Global recently revised the pipeline definitions. What was formerly known as the Total Active Pipeline is now referred to as Under Contract. The Pre-Planning phase also has been renamed to the Unconfirmed phase.
