Luxury cruise and tour operator APT, along with partner AmaWaterways, has celebrated the arrival of Europe’s newest river ship, the AmaKristina, with a christening ceremony overnight.

APT Travel Group owner Geoff McGeary, director Rob McGeary and Group Managing Director Chris Hall joined AmaKristina’s Godmother –  AmaWaterways co-owner and Executive Vice President Kristin Karst – and  AmaWaterways President and Co-owner Rudi Schreiner at a special ceremony on the Rhine river at Lahnstein, Germany.

The christening was presided over by Captain Jan de Bruijn and featured a cocktail reception, religious blessing, local entertainment and a welcome by Lahnstein Mayor Peter Labonte. It was followed by a gala dinner and a surprise fireworks display.

The AmaKristina is the 16th European river vessel for APT and AmaWaterways, and is the sister ship to the AmaViola and the AmaStella, who was christened in June 2016 with Bitcon Travel owner Carole Smethurst as Godmother.

The AmaKristina can carry 156 guests and features spacious staterooms complete with signature twin balconies, three dining venues and a sundeck with running track, heated pool and swim up bar.

ATG Group Managing Director Chris Hall said the innovations on the AmaKristina demonstrated the company’s commitment to innovation and excellence in guest comfort and service.

“The evolution of the fleet ensures that APT will always offer Australians a leading river cruise experience in Europe, designed with guest experience at the forefront,” he said.
