Members of APT Travel Group’s multi-talented marketing team stepped away from their computes and into the kitchen this week, taking part in a volunteer day at Melbourne’s Sacred Heart Mission Dining Hall.

Craig, Angelique, Marie, Nina, Leanne and Kane ditched advertising deadlines and weekly sales reports in favour of serving meals to disadvantaged Melburnians in the inner city suburb of St Kilda.

Leanne welcomed guests with a warm and friendly smile, giving them their trays, cutlery and salt and pepper. Marie handled the potato bake and parmigiana, while Angelique was a massive hit on the salad bar.

Marketing graduate Kane was a great soup ladler until Nina stole his job half way through, while Craig took care of the washing up.

Melbourne’s Sacred Heart Mission Dining Hall serves breakfast and lunch 365 days a year and relies on 20 volunteers each day to help its kitchen staff of four.

In addition to nutritious meals, the service offers homeless and socially disadvantaged people an opportunity to develop a sense of belonging and to connect with support services.

The day was organised as part of APT’s volunteer program, which sees all staff allocated two additional leave days each year to volunteer at a community organisation of their choosing.
