A man with no arms is due in court today on charges of using his feet to grab a pair of scissors and stab a passing tourist.

The accused, Jonathan Crenshaw, 46, paints on canvas at Miami’s South Beach and sells his artworks to tourists, the Miami Herald reports. A well-known local character, Crenshaw paints by holding the brushes with his feet.

Miami Beach police say that around midnight recently, Crenshaw stabbed a tourist with a pair of scissors.

The victim, US domestic tourist Cesar Coronado, 22, was on a trip to Miami Beach from Chicago.

The arrest report quotes Crenshaw saying he was lying down when Coronado came up and punched him in the head, whereupon he stabbed Coronado twice, put the scissors back into his waistband and walked away.

The victim was found lying on the ground, bleeding from his left arm. Miami Beach police officers called paramedics, who took Coronado to hospital.

Coronado and a friend, also visiting from Chicago, both say Coronado was just asking Crenshaw for directions when Crenshaw leapt up and stabbed him.

Crenshaw is currently being held at a correctional centre on bail and is due to appear in court today (18 July 2018). According to the Miami Herald, he has previous convictions for trespassing, vandalism, disorderly intoxication and assaulting police, firefighters and city officials.
