EGT mediaTVDid you know that Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula has been a hot spot for cultural and artistic history since the first European settlement was established near Sorrento in 1803 and that Victoria’s second light station was built at Cape Schanck in 1859, still boasting its original beacon and operates much as it did originally, and that Point Nepean played a critical defence role from the 1880s through both World Wars, although closed to the public for more than 100 years, Point Nepean was also home to an historic Quarantine Station which has recently been opened to visitors.

The Mornington Peninsula, right on Melbourne’s doorstep is actually practically awash with history and nature and as I discovered on a visit recently, not only some of the best golf courses, but also come of the best pinot noir in Australia if not the world!

Famous homes on the Mornington Peninsula range from the humble 1844 McCrae Homestead from pioneer times, to the stately 1895 Coolart Homestead with bird-filled wetlands and the 1863 Beleura, the Tallis family summer home for many years, now known for its rich furnishings and the beauty of its gardens, and opulent Mulberry Hill, once home to artist Sir Daryl Lindsay and Joan (Lady) Lindsay, author of ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’.

Enough from me … meet the expert … at Australian Tourism Exchange recently I met with Mornington Peninsula Tourism’s Kellie Barrett and to hear what Kellie had to say about the amazing Mornington Peninsula, please click on the video box below.
