Hong Kong Airlines is proud that Club Autus, its new lounge at Hong Kong International Airport, has been named as the winner for the “Best New Lounge 2017” award by TheDesignAir.
Founded in 2012, TheDesignAir is an online aviation news platform that offers the very latest in product and design news in aviation, blended with a mix of Top 10 lists, Trip Reports, Competitions and Interviews with industry leaders.

“Hong Kong Airlines has won Best New Lounge 2017 at TheDesignAir Awards against fierce competition,” said Mr Jonny Clark, Director of TheDesignAir. “The lounge was well received by the judging panel for its use of space, local design touches and modern approach to zonal seating. Club Autus with its custom furnishings and calligraphy showcase the airline’s design-centric approach to the passenger experience and lavish attention to
detail. The combination of natural materials makes the space feel homely, warm and contemporary.” Mr Stanley Kan, Director of Hong Kong Airlines’ Service Delivery Department said: “We are delighted to receive the “Best New Lounge” award by TheDesignAir. We developed Club Autus with the aim of providing our customers with tailor-made services that enhance the overall flight experience. It’s therefore extremely gratifying that the lounge has already been so well received by the industry and our customers alike.”

Having just opened its doors in September 2017, the development of Club Autus reflects Hong Kong Airlines’ commitment to elevating its services for Business Class travellers. The new lounge – built at a cost of HK$35 million – was designed by an award winning local interior designer Mr Phill Cheng, who incorporated design cues that showcased the very best of Hong Kong’s culture. Meanwhile, up-and-coming calligrapher Ms Packy Lai was commissioned to write the name plaque for the lounge using the traditional art form.

Elements from popular films, music, and culture have been fused into the design to resonate with Hong Kong Airlines’ slogan, “Where Hong Kong Begins”. The lounge blends green architecture with modernity and style, putting natural materials such as soil, flora, and flowing water to decorative use. Meanwhile, the meticulous use of indoor plants, timber, and polished concrete injects the tranquillity of nature into an urban space.

Club Autus features a comprehensive suite of facilities that cater to every traveller’s need, and is divided into dedicated sections such as the Premier Zone, Business Zone, Leisure Area, Family Zone, Personal Care Zone, and Scenery Zone. Shower facilities are also available – perfect for connection travellers seeking to refresh prior to a flight.

This attention to detail extends to the food and beverage services offered at the lounge. At 20 metres in length, the food line is the longest of its kind at Hong Kong International Airport, and serves a variety of Chinese and Western dishes, as well as popular health foods. A selection of noodle options as well as local favourite, the Hong Kong Egg Waffle, are also offered.
