The new destination for the 2018 and 2019 awards ceremonies was announced at a media conference hosted by Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants and the Macao Government Tourism Office at Wynn Palace, which was followed by a celebratory lunch at Andrea’s restaurant. Attendees included local restaurateurs, industry VIPs and media as well as regional chefs, including Richard Ekkebus, Shinobu Namae and May Chow.

The organisers of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants have chosen to bring this best-in-class gourmet platform to Macao in order to showcase its fast-expanding gastronomic portfolio, as well as celebrate outstanding talent from across Asia.

William Drew, Group Editor of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, says: “After three years in Singapore and two in Bangkok, we are thrilled to announce Macao will be the host destination for the sixth and seventh editions of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna. Macao’s rich history is reflected in the diverse food culture and vibrant restaurant scene. ”

In 2017, the annual list – a snapshot of expert opinions and prevailing restaurant trends – saw 12 different countries represented, including 10 new entries in total. Building on the success of previous years, the 2018 program will include a new edition of #50BestTalks. Scheduled for Monday 26th March 2018, the one-day forum will bring together Asia’s most influential chefs and culinary leaders to discuss regional gastronomy and emerging food trends.

Macao has all the ingredients to provide an inspiring backdrop to this prestigious event given our dynamic and diverse gastronomy scene, ranging from food stalls to high-end restaurants. The event will also be an excellent occasion to celebrate Macao’s inclusion in UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network in the field of gastronomy.”

How Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list is compiled

The list is created from the votes of the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, an influential group of over 300 leaders in the restaurant industry across Asia, each selected for their expert opinion of Asia’s restaurant scene. The panel in each region is made up of food writers and critics, chefs, restaurateurs and highly regarded ‘gastronomes’. Members list their choices in order of preference, based on their best restaurant experiences of the previous 18 months. There is no pre-determined check-list of criteria, but there are strict voting rules.

For the 2018 edition, Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants is once again working with professional services consultancy Deloitte as its official independent adjudication partner. The adjudication by Deloitte ensures that the integrity and authenticity of the voting process and the resulting list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants are protected.
