Assassin fashion for $1200 after KL airport killing

February 17, 2017 Headline News No Comments Email Email

Replicas of the shirt worn by a suspected female assassin at Kuala Lumpur airport have suddenly become bizarre fashion items, with lookalikes on sale online.

A woman wearing a light-coloured top with the letters ‘LOL’ is suspected of involvement in the killing of Kim Jong-nam, half brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at the airport on Monday.

The victim was killed in bizarre circumstances, reminiscent of something from a James Bond film, with a woman allegedly coming up from behind and covering his face with a cloth impregnated with some mystery chemical. Kim died shortly afterwards on the way to hospital.

Not long afterwards, a shirt dubbed “same Tee worn by North Korean female spy” became briefly available on the massive Chinese trading site for CYN 6324 – a sum that’s equivalent to an astonishing AUD 1195.95. The South China Morning Post in Hong Kong said the item was quickly removed from sale.

Knock-offs are reputedly available on the dark web.

Following the weird apparent assassination, Malaysian police arrested a woman carrying a Vietnamese passport.

“The suspect was positively identified from CCTV footage at the airport,” Khalid Abu Bakir, Malaysia’s police chief, told the state news agency Bernama.

As airports have more security cameras than most other places, how assassins felt they could escape after such a brazen murder – carried out in broad daylight in a shopping concourse at the airport – is another mystery.

The woman wearing the LOL top was carrying a handbag, with shoulder-length hair and heavy make up. Her passport said she was born in Nam Dinh, Vietnam.

She has told police she was asked to spray the victim as part of a ‘prank’ instigated by four men.
