The Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) today welcomed the announcement of improved visa processes for visitors from Indonesia which will work to strengthen visitor numbers from this important regional market.
The Government has today announced Indonesians will now be able to apply for a 3 year, multiple entry visa from next year and expanded online visa lodgement by 2017.
“The Indonesian visitor market has strengthened in recent years with visitors increasing by 7% in the past year alone and measures such as this will help to grow that market further,” ATEC Managing Director, Peter Shelley said.
“As a growing economy in the region, Indonesia has a large population and Australia is an attractive destination for a new market looking to travel and gain new experiences.
“We are also pleased to see these reforms will introduce online lodgement processes for Indonesians seeking visas which will enable a faster, more secure and more streamlined system that reflects the needs of the modern traveller.”
It is critical that the Federal Government continues its commitment to improve visitor visa application and processing procedures in order for Australia to compete effectively for a greater percentage of the much sought after global tourism market.
