Aurora Expeditions, Australia’s leading expedition cruise company, has launched a new Arctic itinerary to discover Iceland, Jan Mayen island and Svalbard onboard their new expedition ship.

Departing 12 June 2020, the new itinerary is the first new Arctic trip to be announced for the soon to be launched state-of-the-art vessel, and marks the company’s expansion and innovation of expedition offerings in remote destinations.
Taking guests through the sublime beauty of Iceland’s Westfjords, the seldom-visited Jan Mayen Island – the world’s northernmost active volcanic destination – and Svalbard’s northwest coast, the new itinerary reflects Aurora Expeditions’ spirit of small-ship expedition cruising with wildlife, nature and adventure at the heart of the experience.
Aurora Expeditions managing director Robert Halfpenny said this is just the tip-of-the-iceberg for new itineraries and experiences to be announced following the launch of the Greg Mortimer ship.
“Aurora has more than 25 years’ experience in Antarctica and the Arctic regions, but with a new ship boasting innovative technology, capabilities, and comfort, we are now able to push the boundaries of expedition cruising like never before,” Mr Halfpenny said.
“The new Arctic voyage is part of the Greg Mortimer’s inaugural season, with the ‘purpose-built for adventure’ ship allowing expeditioners onboard the chance to explore new destinations rarely visited by cruise companies.
“It also allows easy disembarkation for frequent small group excursions to get to the heart of the action in these spectacular wild environments.”
Sailing within 965kms of the North Pole, guests can Zodiac-cruise past dramatic bird cliffs and glacier-filled fjords, study unique volcanic geology, hike across Arctic tundra landscapes and opt to kayak through pack ice, keeping an eye out for breaching whales, polar bears and walrus.
Launching with the new itinerary is an exclusive early bird offer –a saving of up to 20% (maximum saving of AU$3,100 per person, twin share) on the voyage for all room categories.
“This new trip gives Aurora Expeditions’ guests the opportunity to be amongst the lucky few on the planet to explore this area in such an immersive way,” Robert Halfpenny added.
“Agents now have a stand-out Arctic itinerary to share with their clients of adventurous spirit, and this early bird offer is a great reason to encourage clients to book now,” said Robert Halfpenny.
