Aussie Christmas Extravaganza at Wild Life Sydney Zoo

December 22, 2017 Attraction No Comments Email Email

Today, the animals at Wild Life Sydney Zoo hopped, ate and slept their way through the Christmas celebrations which featured custom Santa sacks, a special turkey feast and traditional Christmas decorations.

From tiny Fat-Tailed Dunnarts who weigh less than 5 grams each, to Rocky the Saltwater Crocodile who weighs in at a whopping 360 kilograms; all animals big and small celebrated Christmas with keepers throwing them all their own custom celebrations. Iluka the Koala had her favourite tree decked from top to bottom in tinsel and a Santa hat, inquisitively checking it out the new additions and munching on Eucalyptus leaves from her very own Santa sack.

Davey the Quokka, and Dot and Matilda the Kangaroo Island Kangaroos, also all enjoyed their favourite food from their own personalised Santa sacks, and Ringo the Wombat even had his own special delivery – a wombat-friendly sack which he retreated to his den with much to the delight of keepers. Rocky the Saltwater Crocodile also enjoyed his first turkey feast, sans cranberry sauce, helping himself to seconds as he happily snapped up the feast. Following the feast, he happily swum to the bottom of his display to help sleep off his food coma. Ella the Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby also enjoyed some fresh corn, her favourite food, in her Wallaby Cliffs enclosure.

Today’s Christmas celebration formed part of the attraction’s dedicated enrichment program whereby keepers enrich the animal’s environment with objective and activities that stimulate natural behaviour.

These summer holidays, come meet these animals and more as part of the attraction’s new Aussie Big 5 experience! At Wild Life Sydney Zoo, step into an animal adventure and meet your favourite iconic Australian animals – meet cute koalas in Gum Tree Valley or have your photo taken with them at Koala Encounters. Head to Wallaby Cliffs to interact with Ringo the wombat and then hop to Kangaroo Walk-About to walk amongst the kangaroos.  The platypus pools are where you’ll find Jackie & Zoey, our resident platypus pals, before entering the daring world of Kakadu Gorge where you’ll come eye to eye with a huge saltwater crocodile, and much more!
