It’s really very rewarding to experience and discover the ever increasing number of Australian senior hospitality specialists appearing in key senior roles around the world, including during my recent trip to Saigon, aka Ho Chi Minh City, by meeting up with Sydneysider Justin Malcolm, GM of the superb, city center, District 1, riverside Le Meridien Saigon.
Justin told me that he kicked off what has become his stellar Starwood hospitality career working in kitchens in hotels in Sydney, quickly elevating with Starwood becoming responsible for the opening of Sydney’s Westin hotel, moving to Kuala Lumpur as Director – Rooms Division at The Westin Kuala Lumpur Hotel & Residences, across to the Maldives as Resort Manager Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa where he was awarded the Region’s Most Inspiring Leader in 2009, before moving back into Asia as General Manager Le Meridien Chiang Rai Resort, then becoming General Manager of the Aloft Bangkok, the First Aloft Hotel in South East Asia and of course in June 2016, becoming General Manager of the stunning and extremely and professionally well run and operated Le Meridien Saigon, with undoubtedly other exciting senior Starwood roles ahead of Justin.
Situated in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, perched in its prime location overlooking the Saigon River, Le Meridien Saigon has 343 superb guest rooms and suites, with Le Meridien Saigon just a short distance from some of Ho Chi Minh’s key sights, including the Ben Thanh Market, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Reunification Palace, War Remnants Museum and much more, plus it is an awesome location not only for experiencing and enjoying Saigon, an amazing Asian city with strong French influences, but also for exploring the Mekong and the remainder of SE Asia.
