Rugby league legend Wally Lewis, former Australian cricketer Jeff Thomson and rugby league’s famous Walter brothers, Kevin, Kerrod and Steve, will be among the almost 400 guests attending the invitation-only event.

A highlight of the lunch, which is now in its 25th year, is the sporting memorabilia auction which raises funds for Brisbane-based charity, Backstop, providing respite care for paraplegics and quadriplegics.

The Royal ICC’s General Manager of Venue Sales and Marketing Jago Coyle said he was thrilled the event organisers had chosen to hold the charity lunch at the world-class Royal ICC.

“The event raises funds for a great cause and we’re pleased to host it at our venue for the very first time,’’ he said.

“We’re delighted to welcome sporting personalities and the local business community to the Royal ICC, serving them a three course meal featuring Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show Grand Champion beef and medal-winning cheeses.”

The Sporting Hasbeens Charity Lunch is one of almost 300 events staged at the historic Brisbane Showgrounds this year.
