In taking the art of meeting to a whole new level, InterContinental Wellington was named Australasia’s Leading Conference Hotel at the annual World Travel Awards held last night in Hong Kong.
A multi-million-dollar, two-year refurbishment of the hotel was completed in March, when the final phase – creating state-of-the-art meeting rooms – revealed the most technologically-advanced conference spaces in Wellington, New Zealand. (Features include interactive whiteboards whereby presenters can wirelessly connect via iOS and Android devices, retractable projector screens and data projectors, wall mounted touch-screen control panels for lighting, sound and visuals, and conference menus that allow for tailored individuality.)
The comprehensive rejuvenation also transformed the iconic 232-room hotel’s Club InterContinental Lounge, the Club InterContinental guest rooms, Chameleon Restaurant, The Lobby Lounge and the reception arrival experience, and introduced a newly-defined Deluxe Guest Room category.
The Australasian accolade now puts InterContinental Wellington in the running for the title of World’s Leading Conference Hotel, to be announced early December following the next voting round. (Voting is by former guests and travel agents worldwide and is stringently audited.)
InterContinental Wellington’s Presidential Suite was also recognised last night, named as New Zealand’s Leading Hotel Suite.
While often a home away from home for heads of state or high profile entertainers, the stunning suite with sweeping views of Wellington’s harbour aims to be accessible to a broader market, and is also utilised by conference organisers for keynote speakers, said Director of Sales & Marketing Geoff Naumann.
