Fifty of Australia’s highest performing travel agents have returned from Abu Dhabi this week following a 6 day customized experience of the UAE’s capital city.
Run in partnership with Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), Etihad Airways and Virgin Australia, the visit is the first of its two-part Mega Famil series open to Australian agents in the coming year.
Selected on the basis of their sales performance and attendance at trade events run by TCA Abu Dhabi, the agents from across Australia were split into 3 different groups, experiencing luxurious accommodation, culinary delights and attractions from right across the diverse destination.
The lucky agents began their journey by experiencing the warm hospitality and personal style of service from airline partners Etihad Airways and Virgin Australia including a preview of the airlines premium lounges at Sydney and Abu Dhabi International Airports.
Upon arrival in Abu Dhabi the agents then experienced some of the emirates most well-known tourist attractions such as the Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Yas Waterworld and the Al Jahili Fort in the oasis city of Al Ain. Participants were also treated to an exclusive welcome function inside the world’s highest suspended presidential suite at St Regis Abu Dhabi alongside a luxurious desert resort stay at Qasr Al Sarab by Anantara or Tilal Liwa Hotel located in the Al Gharbia region.
TCA Abu Dhabi Country Manager Australia, Michael Woods said having the annual Mega Famil split into smaller groups meant the tourist board could tailor its itineraries to meeting the needs of each individual allowing the participants to experience something a little more personal.
“With the recent broadcast of X Factor Australia in Abu Dhabi, the visit of these high performing agents came at a time when Abu Dhabi was top of mind for Australian consumers”
Thanks to our airline partners, they came to us from all across Australia and with additional capacity from the Australian market we’re excited for the future.
“Thanks to the generous support of our accommodation partners and tourism stakeholders, we’ve enjoyed showing the agents how amazing a holiday or stopover here can be and I’m confident that this will lead to them including more trips to Abu Dhabi when planning client itineraries.”
Etihad Airways’ General Manager Australia and New Zealand Sarah Built said Etihad Airways was proud to once again co-host the Mega Famil alongside TCA Abu Dhabi and Virgin Australia.
“The Mega Famil was an excellent opportunity to showcase our Abu Dhabi home to top performing travel agents.
“Abu Dhabi’s abundant visitor attractions are more accessible than ever with Etihad Airways and Virgin Australia now offering 42 weekly flights from Australia to Abu Dhabi.”
Travel agent feedback following the famil has shone a light on what the destination has to offer and its plans for the future.
“Abu Dhabi is set to become a game changer with the opening of two of the world’s leading museums – The Louvre and the Guggenheim, I can see many of my clients looking for this sort of cultural experience” – Sue, Sylvania Travel and Cruise
“Stopping over in Abu Dhabi is so diverse, one day you’re relaxing poolside in the most luxurious desert resort and the next you’re doing a hot lap in a race car at the Yas Marina Circuit – home to the Etihad Airways Formula 1 Grand Prix” – Bob Andrews, RAC Travel Perth
The second Mega Famil installment has been set for April 2016 and is expected to link in with a new e-learning platform TCA Abu Dhabi has been tipped to release in the coming months.
