unnamed (41)Viking Cruises last night launched at an celebratory event at The Rocks Waterfront Restaurant, Viking Ocean Cruises and the 2015 / 2016 programme.

“Tonight provides an opportunity for all of us at Viking and on behalf of our Chairman Torstein Hagen to say thank you for your support and custom over the years. Without you, the success of Viking River Cruises and the launch of Viking Ocean Cruises would not be possible” said Teresia Fors, Managing Director, Viking Cruises Australia & New Zealand.

In true Viking Cruises tradition of Guest engagement, during the evening as a Viking exclusive; A panel of health, lifestyle and finance experts discussed their vision of the future of life “after work” in the Australian landscape together with the audience present.unnamed (42)

“We developed this product [Viking Ocean Cruises] by reaching out to our Viking River Cruises® Past Guests asking them about what was missing in ocean cruising today. The responses we received were firstly overwhelming in support of us venturing into oceans, with 84% of our Past Guests expressing their continued support should we offer ocean cruise itineraries” Fors said.  “Secondly, in terms of product development, again, the feedback we received was very clear. Our Past Guests told us that they wanted a destination focused programme with more time in port, less sea days, a small ship experience but offered at good value which they found was missing in the industry today” Fors continued.

Viking Cruises is ushering in a new era of ocean cruising by taking the innovative thinking behind their award-winning river cruises and bringing it to the epic setting of the sea. This new cruise experience is one their river cruise Guests inspired them to create, through listening to their feedback and crafting a cruise experience based on this: one focused on destinations.

Viking Ocean Cruises
With three sister ships now under construction, Viking developed its ocean cruises by leveraging extensive feedback and input from Viking River Cruises® passengers, and with experienced travellers in mind. Itineraries are designed for maximum time in port, often with late evenings or overnights, so Guests can experience local nightlife or evening performances. Ports include both cosmopolitan cities and “collector ports,” and appeal to those with an interest in history, art and culture. In addition, Viking Inclusive Cruising provides unparalleled value—with every cruise fare including a veranda stateroom, shore excursions in each port of call, all on board meals, and all port charges and government taxes. Guests also enjoy many complimentary amenities as part of their fare, including: beer and wine with lunch and dinner service; Wi-Fi; self-service laundry and 24-hour room service—a value of more than $2,400 per couple for an average cruise.

Viking believe the best way to understand a country is through enrichment, and on their cruises guests can truly explore a destination – through its food, culture and customs. From accompanying the ship’s Chef to a local market to viewing private collections at world-class museums, Viking have a history of providing their guests with a way to get below the surface, not just “checking off” each port.

Viking Ocean Cruises are centred around where you go, not just how you get there, with hand-picked itineraries so Guests can immerse themselves in history, music, art, cuisine – everything about their destination. In addition, they include excursions led by knowledgeable local guides in every port of call. You learn about the lands through which you travel via enriching lectures that bring history to life; through cultural adventures; in-depth pre-trip materials; and on-demand programming, all designed to help you experience the most from your travels.

Viking Cruises offers destination-centric river and ocean cruising designed for experienced travellers with an interest in geography, culture and history. Featuring on board cultural enrichment and included shore excursions, Viking’s journeys are competitively priced for genuine value. Debuting its maiden season of ocean cruising in 2015, the sophisticated state-of-the-art Viking Star will host 930 guests on itineraries in Scandinavia and the Baltic; and the Western and Eastern Mediterranean.

Classified by Cruise Critic as a “small ship,” the 930-passenger all-veranda Viking Star – as well as its two sister ships under construction, Viking Sea and Viking Sky – is engineered at a scale that allows direct access into most ports, so guests have easy and efficient embarkation and debarkation. Light-filled and intimate, the ship features understated elegance and modern Scandinavian design. Highlights include:
