Australian Outback Marathon

Since its launch in 2010, the Australian Outback Marathon has fast made its name as a key fixture on the Australian running calendar. Over 400 entrants are due to take part in this year’s race, which is set amongst one of the most iconic backdrops in the world.

Ray Stone, Voyages Executive General Manager Sales, Marketing and Distribution, commented: “This race in the spiritual heart of Australia is a memorable experience for both amateur and experienced runners alike and we are delighted to be partnering with Travelling Fit once again. The race promotes healthy living and is a great event for the community, with a number of local school children participating in the fun runs.”

Race organiser and sports tour operator, Travelling Fit, has designed the event to be enjoyed by all levels of running abilities and four different events are available: a full Marathon, Half Marathon and 11km and 6km fun runs. The course is relatively flat, with only a few inclines and sand dunes. Most of the course is plotted on unsealed roads, bush tracks and soft-sand trails, with a few small sand dunes and plenty of the Red Centre’s famed “Red Earth”.

Entry to the 2016 Australian Outback Marathon is still open. For more information or to register, visit:

Testimonials from previous years:

“My running buddies and I flew across Australia from SA, NSW and TAS to meet at Uluru and run in the first Outback Half Marathon. The event was really well organised and had a fantastic feel. The didgeridoo starting gun, ochre red sand, and awesome views of the Olgas and Uluru made it a truly unique experience. If you like your runs to be memorable, this event is for you!”

Catherine Ford – VIC

“Just wanted to say a huge thank you to the team for organising a fantastic event. I have run 15 marathons around the world and the Australian Outback Marathon stands out as the most memorable. I hope the event goes from strength to strength and will be encouraging my friends to enter in the future.”

Nicholas Turner – NSW

“I have completed 7 half marathons, all in many different locations including overseas – this was by far the best. The highlight of my running “career”!”

Josie Hunting – NSW

“Thank you for a life changing experience…”

Nicola Delve – NSW
