The latest work of renowned playwright and screenwriter Andrew Bovell is making its American debut at the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre (The Rep) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. The play’s journey from Australia to Midwest America is an interesting tale of its own.

The Rep’s artistic director, Mark Clements, is a long-time friend of Bovell. After Clements read a draft of “Things I Know To Be True,” he knew this play was meant for The Rep.

In May 2018, Bovell journeyed to Milwaukee for a bit of research. He not only observed the American actors performing his script, but also toured the city for background and context. The trip helped to inform Bovell’s adaptation of the play for an American audience. Now, several months later, “Things I Know To Be True” takes the stage in Milwaukee.

Bovell’s play follows the struggles that four adult siblings face over the course of a year. The UK Telegraph called it a “warm play that will remind every audience member of their family.”

The American premiere of “Things I Know To Be True” is being performed in the Quadracci Powerhouse at The Rep now through March 31, 2019. Visit milwaukeerep.com to learn more about the performance, or reply to this email for more information, interviews, and photography.
