Australian Sales Figures Double for Riviera River Cruises

October 19, 2017 River Cruising No Comments Email Email

A major European river cruise line unknown to most Australians until this year, Riviera Travel, has doubled its Australian sales figures for August and September this year, compared to 2016.

And in another boost for Riviera Travel, which offers inclusive, five-star cruises at fares up to 50 per cent lower than most other river operators, UK travel agents have just voted Riviera the best river cruise operator for 2017 for the second year in row as part of Britain’s TTG Travel Awards – the UK’s most prestigious travel accolades.

Riviera Travel’s Sales Manager for Australia, Shelley Davey, said a big push targeting Australia since mid-2016 had paid off with local sales figures for August and September this year twice as high as those for the same time last year.

“Our dedicated Australian website and brochure, low, transparent fares and desire to do things differently have clearly resonated with the Australian market and we look forward to building on that momentum now to establish Riviera Travel as a major player in the local river cruise space,” Ms Davey said.

“Australian travel agents, in particular, have warmed to our set commissions, no-direct-booking policy, no discounting strategy and broader distribution channel steered by wholesalers Cruiseco and Cruise Traveller, which allows Australians to book a Riviera Travel river cruise through any travel agent.

“The increasing numbers of Australians cruising with us in Europe tell us they love the fact we do not include automatic gratuities and unlimited beverages in fares, which allows them to tip as they like and buy low-priced drinks as they wish.  Australians also love the fact we have solo-use cabins with no supplement on every cruise, and that, unlike other operators, we include tea and coffee-making facilities in every cabin. And our avoidance of discounting means guests don’t discover fellow passengers have paid less for the same cabin.”

Riviera Travel – the largest supplier of European river cruises in Britain – is offering 250 cruises on nine European rivers and waterways this year while in 2018, Riviera’s biggest-yet fleet of 11 luxury ships will carry a record number of guests on 300 cruises across 12 different itineraries in Europe.

The UK-based company introduced a record four, five-star, all-suite, sister ships this year – Thomas Hardy, Emily Bronte, Oscar Wilde and Douro Elegance – with another, Robert Burns, launching in April, 2018. The elegant, 167-guest, Swiss-built ships are rated amongst the finest and most spacious on Europe’s waterways, each boasting attentive, gracious service, fine dining, a grand, marble lobby, sumptuous lounges and restaurants, splash pool and gym, with most cabins offering a French or full balcony.

Including daily shore excursions, fine dining and afternoon tea, fares with Riviera Travel are available from A$2099 per person – twin-share or solo use – for a seven-night Blue Danube cruise and from A$4349 per person – twin-share or solo use – for Riviera’s most popular cruise itinerary, a 14-night Heart of Europe cruise between Cologne and Budapest.

Bookings and brochures are available via Australian travel agents.
