The International Centre for Responsible Tourism – Australia together with the Tourism Industry Council NSW are holding a dedicated tourism bushfire risk management seminar in Sydney on 28th November 2013.

“This will be a practical 3 hour seminar with an expert panel to provide helpful advice to local government, regional tourism organisations and tourism providers. The recent bushfires in NSW demonstrate the economic threats to tourism from bushfires. It is essential that tourism adapts to extreme weather events and their consequences. We have a wealth of information,  however we require responsible collaborative action from tourism to protect our visitors and staff as well as assist in the protection of our natural and cultural heritage, attractions, communities and individual businesses,” says Christopher Warren Director of the international Centre for Responsible Tourism – Australia.

Speakers at the seminar include Randal Walker chair of the Blue Mts tourism, Dr Stuart Toplis from Tourism Victoria and Dr David Beirman from UTS. The ICRT will unveil its study on the barriers for tourism operators to be prepared for bushfires.

“If we want to increase the value of the visitor economy we must also reduce the threats to rural tourism businesses and visitors. This seminar will provide advice and guidance, ” says Warren.

The seminar is being held between 11:00 and 2:00 on Thursday 28th November in Sydney. Read more the ‘Bushfire Preparedness for the Tourism Industry: Managing Visitor Economy Risks Seminar.
