November 28, 2013 Destination Global No Comments Email Email

Visitor numbers from Australia to Norfolk Island have been steadily increasing each month during 2013 and in the latest set of quarterly statistics indicated a rise of 23% to 1660 arrivals in August alone whilst 2280 travelled to the island in September.

The statistics also revealed that some 82% of arrivals on Norfolk Island from Australia were first time visitors.

The continued popularity of travel from the mainland to this short-haul holiday destination, has resulted in Air New Zealand announcing an additional five return flights between Sydney and Norfolk Island on September 27 and October 4, 11, 18 and 25 2014 to operate at the same time as the current Monday and Friday services departing Sydney at 9.35am.

Norfolk Island Tourism General Manager, Glen Buffett said this year’s ‘There’s More To Norfolk Island’ consumer and trade campaign had “delivered outstanding results for the island” from Australia.

“To complement this activity we have also been undertaking a number of joint venture sales campaigns throughout new travel agent, airline and online distribution channels in Australia and providing promotional support for the group markets and special events,” said Mr Buffett.

Mr Buffett said there had been a focus on niche markets, especially families, gay travel, fishing, school education groups and conferencing.
