With many people making plans ahead of the Queen’s Birthday public holiday on Monday, 10th June, SureSave offers insights into Australians’ travel habits.

How do you use yours?

Matt Endycott, Head of Agency Sales at SureSave, says Australians like to make the most of public holidays, with many planning travel around this time.

“Almost 52% of Australians say they prefer to take their annual leave around a public holiday in order to maximise their travel plans.  This clearly shows Australians’ passion for travel, using even just one extra day off work as the perfect opportunity to book a holiday and get to the airport!”

Where do Australian travellers stay when on holiday?

When travelling overseas, most Australians (47%) say they normally book four-star accommodation, followed by 27% who go for three-star accommodation, and 17% who opt for budget.  Meanwhile, 9% like to treat themselves to the finer things in life, saying they prefer to book five-star accommodation.

How long do travellers go on holiday?

For their last overseas leisure trip, most Australians (42%) said that they had a holiday that lasted eight to 14 days, followed by 31% who travelled for 15 to 30 days, whilst a lucky 15% travelled for 31 days or more.

What’s important when booking a travel insurance policy?

When asked to explain the main reason behind selecting their travel insurance policy, 35% of respondents said ‘it offered a good balance between policy cover and price; i.e. best value’, whilst 14% say ‘it had the best benefits and policy cover’. Not surprisingly just 11% were particularly price conscious, opting for the lowest priced product over benefits and coverage.

“SureSave works to ensure that agents have the information they need to inform their customers on travel insurance.  It’s essential that travellers have a travel insurance policy that offers them a suitable level of cover that best suits all their needs.  Travel insurance is always a necessity,” said Endycott.
