Australians thinking of tomorrow, today

July 3, 2013 Corporate No Comments Email Email

What will you do today, for tomorrow? That was the question G Adventures asked the global community through their inaugural G Project initiative. Of the more than 350 ideas submitted, two Australian initiatives were voted into the group of 16 semi-finalists, with one of these semi-finalists reaching the final four.

Jodie’s McQueen’s submission, Plastic bottles to boardwalks, made the final four and will be presented by Jodie in person at the inaugural Summit in the Jungle in Costa Rica in September.

“I am excited that G Project has given me the opportunity to present my idea to help tackle plastic pollution to a global audience,” said Jodie.

“It was great to see so many people vote to support the project and I can’t wait to see where my idea will go from here.”

Jodie will present her idea – which seeks to repurpose waste discarded by the tourism industry into building materials via a buy-back arrangement with tour operators – to a panel of judges, including Lonely Planet’s Tony Wheeler, Dr. Jane Goodall and G Adventures’ founder Bruce Poon Tip.

“The G Project is more than traveller philanthropy or charitable giving. It’s a unique initiative designed to bring people from different backgrounds together to lead, build and foster positive change all over the world,” said Poon Tip.

“The G Project was devised as a means to help and enable aspiring change-makers to take their idea from conception to action and impact.”

If Jodie’s submission is judged by the panel as best meeting the requirements of the initiative, she stands to receive USD $25,000 to help make her idea a reality.

The competition has been wildly successful so far, with an incredible show of community engagement and support.
