The country’s top travel insurers are getting a nod in the Mozo Experts Choice Travel Insurance Awards. This year saw experts from the comparison site conduct a comprehensive review of 271 international travel insurance policies from 71 different insurers, with World2Cover being awarded Travel Insurer of the Year after scooping up wins in all seven categories.

“Compared to booking hotels, flights and activities, travel insurance can be a real minefield for many travellers which may explain why it’s often treated as afterthought when planning a holiday. Through our Mozo Experts Choice Travel Insurance Awards, we hope to simplify the shopping for travel insurance by providing holidaymakers with a tried and trusted shortlist of insurers worthy of consideration,” says Kirsty Lamont, Mozo Director.

“For the first time, the travel insurers under the Mozo expert’s microscope were judged according to price and quality. This is to recognise that different travellers have different needs. For instance, a traveller taking out cover for a relaxing vacation in Hawaii might opt for a cheaper, more basic policy, while another jetting off to a ski trip to Japan is likely to want loads more bells and whistles to ensure they are covered for as many situations as possible.”

Mozo’s ‘Value’ awards looked at the average price of travel insurance policies for a family of four travelling for 14 days across four of Australia’s most popular holiday destinations – USA, UK, Bali and Thailand. For the Ski category, Mozo experts looked at travel insurance prices for that same family travelling to Japan over 14 days, while quotes for the Cruise category were based on a South Pacific trip for nine days.

The Basic category required policies to have unlimited overseas medical cover, while Comprehensive, Ski, Cruise and Annual categories also required policies to have a minimum $7,500 of luggage cover per traveller and $15,000 cancellation cover per traveller.

Travel insurance policies in the ‘Quality’ Awards were judged to be the most generous in the market for the amount of cover afforded to travellers as well as the extent of situations and pre-existing conditions covered. Pricing was not taken into account for these Awards.

Other big winners include Cover-More Travel Insurance, Qantas, Travel Insurance Saver who picked up multiple mentions in the Value Awards. Meanwhile, several Quality Awards were claimed by Southern Cross Travel Insurance and Budget Direct.
