Visitors to Sydney’s ‘secret’ national park, Dharawal National Park, in the Macarthur region can smell, see, taste, hear and touch nature on guided Sensory Walks in the April school holidays.

Launched late 2017, National Park’s guided Sensory Walks have proved very popular – the summer series was booked out weeks in advance as walkers of all ages and abilities have been eager to experience the Australian bushland with their five senses.

Held on Saturday, April 14, 21 and 28, 2018, the tours will be hosted by a national parks ranger. As visitors walk through the beautiful and rugged bushland, they will taste bush foods, touch and smell native vegetation, such as eucalypt forests, and listen for Australian wildlife.

The walk aims to cater for a range of ages and abilities, including guests in prams, wheelchairs and mobility scooters. The easy, 90-minute walks cost only $10 per person, while children under the age of three are free.

In addition to the new sensory walks, Dharawal National Park also offers guided, indigenous walking tours on the second Saturday of every month between February and November, with 9am walks being accessible to everyone, and the 11.30am walks taking the more challenging trail to Minerva Pool.

Bookings are essential and they continue in all safe weather conditions including wet weather. Participants are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes and a hat and bring a bottle of water.

Located in the Macarthur region near Campbelltown, Dharawal National Park was declared in 2012 and boasts dramatic sandstone gorges, waterfalls, spectacular lookouts, waterholes and rock shelters.
