The Lufthansa cocktail has won the German Design Award 2017 in the category “Excellent Communications Design & Packaging”. The Berlin agency Small Big Brands GmbH is responsible for the cocktail. They acquired the Lufthansa cocktail trademark rights in 2015 and have revived the drink with new recipes and premium spirits. The agency has developed a total of six different flavours: As well as the classic cocktail, there are the varieties “Pear Gimlet”, “Negroni”, “Old Fashioned”, “White Manhattan” and “Dry Martini” for that high class bar feeling at home. The design of the bottle for the cocktails was created by Studio Grau in Berlin.

From 1955 on, the Lufthansa cocktail has been served as a welcome drink on board, with the slogan “Fly away from everyday life with the Lufthansa cocktail”. The demand for the orange liqueur with herbal extracts was so great that it became a trendy beverage and was even the most consumed cocktail in Germany in the sixties. In the seventies, the boom faded away; however, in 2005 the classic drink was reissued to mark the occasion of Lufthansa’s 50th anniversary.
