Atmosphere, which made it to the exclusive “Bars to Watch 2015” list of The World’s 50 Best Bars, will welcome Timo Janse, bar manager and head bartender of Door 74, the first speakeasy-style cocktail bar in The Netherlands, from 13 to 17 September 2016. Timo will serve seven cocktails at Atmosphere.
A former Economics student, Timo always knew that he wanted to be a bartender all his life. He currently has over 12 years of experience in a bar. He has been bar manager of Door 74 since it opened over six years ago. The bar has received many awards, including being the only Dutch bar ever to be nominated at Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans for “Best New Cocktail Bar” and “Best International Bar”.
Door 74 has also been featured in the “The World’s 50 Best Bars” list four times, currently holding the 33rd spot (26th, 15th and 23rd, previously).
Timo has participated in regional and international competitions and has won such awards as first prize at the 2010 Bacardi Legacy Challenge (The Netherlands) and third prize at the 2011 National Cocktail Championship in The Netherlands.
A bartender who wishes to reach out to a larger audience, Timo wrote a children’s book series called Shake It! in 2006. Featuring non-alcoholic cocktails for children and especially for teenagers as a substitute for alcohol, the first book won a literary prize in Holland and Belgium as “Best Children’s Book of the Year”.
Cocktail lovers will be in for a treat as Timo presents seven drinks, all sticking to his motivation to make drinks that are “always tasteful, balanced and, above all, original”.
Beijing’s highest luxury bar, Atmosphere at China World Summit Wing, Beijing, continues to bring renowned international bartenders and their exceptional drinks to cocktail lovers in the city. In the past year, Atmosphere has welcomed world-class bartenders from bars which are all recognised at the prestigious “The World’s 50 Best Bars 2015”.
Mixologists who have visited Atmosphere for week-long guest-bartender stints since 2014 include Luca Cinalli from Nightjar in London (ranked third in the list), Cihan Anadologlu from Schumann’s in Munich (ranked 43rd), Steve Schneider from Employees Only in New York (ranked fourth), Simone Caporale from Artesian of London (ranked first), as well as Josh Fontaine and Carina Tsou from Candelaria (ranked 12th).
