Ayana Celebrates Nyepi, An Age-Old Balinese Tradition

April 3, 2018 Resort News No Comments Email Email

On 17th March 2018, over a 24-hour period, the entire island of Bali came to a standstill in observation ofNyepi, an island-wide purification ceremony unique to Bali. Guests who visited AYANA Resort and Spa, BALI during the period had a one-of-a-kind experience with the opportunity to experience the best of Nyepi culture delivered with AYANA hospitality.

The festivities began on Nyepi eve with the Ogoh-Ogoh Ceremony, which saw three huge handmade monsters parading around the resort by a team and guests dressed for the occasion.

Following the lively and fun-filled procession, guests enjoyed authentic Balinese buffet-style cuisine accompanied by a traditional live Kecakdance performance – a form of Balinese dance and music drama – at the Resort’s Kampoeng Bali cultural restaurant.

Come nightfall, when the stars lit up the beautiful Bali sky, guests were invited to cap off their special experience by stargazing while enjoying a picnic on the lawn. The night was beautifully captured by a professional photographer, as the Milky Way filled the night sky and created a stunning backdrop – a perfect memento for AYANA and RIMBA guests.

During this special 24-hour period, the usual hustle and bustle of everyday life came to a stop outside of the hotel – Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport closed, lights went out, people remained indoors, TV networks were turned off, and many internet providers shut down.

Inside AYANA and RIMBA, the hotel turned down lighting and power, keeping noise to a minimum to provide guests with a day of reflection – to detox from the stresses of life and take time to simply relax and appreciate life. Guests were still able to enjoy the hotel’s restaurants & bars, pools and spa while basking in the inimitable serenity.

AYANA Resort and Spa, BALI’s Director of PR and Marketing Communications, Lindsay Grace Kinniburgh shared, “You have to be here to experience the energy radiating over the island during Nyepi. There is a great sense of peace everywhere with notable calmness throughout the day and come nightfall, the stars light up the entire sky. It truly is the best time to be in Bali, and a stay at AYANA or RIMBA offers guests the priceless experience of Nyepi culture whilst still enjoying many of our facilities which are still operating during this period.”
