AYANA entertains resort guests with fabulous Nyepi parade

March 27, 2018 Resort News No Comments Email Email

Guests at AYANA Resort and Spa, BALI were wowed in March when the resort celebrated one of the most important cultural days on the Balinese calendar, by hosting a parade, followed by a traditional Balinese meal and cultural performance. The parade included a giant Komodo dragon to mark the upcoming launch of AYANA’s new property, AYANA Komodo Resort, Waecicu Beach.

Nyepi is held annually over a 24-hour period in mid-March, when the entire island of Bali comes to a halt to participate in an island-wide purification ceremony. This important day of reflection is an incredible experience that offers those present in Bali the opportunity to detox from the stresses of life and take time to simply relax and appreciate life.

Starting on Nyepi’s Eve, the Ogoh-Ogoh Ceremony saw three huge handmade monsters paraded around the resort by the AYANA team and guests dressed for the occasion. Following the noisy, but incredibly fun procession, guests sat down to relax for an authentic buffet style dining experience accompanied by Kecak dance performance at the resort’s traditional Kampoeng Bali cultural restaurant.

From 06:00 on 17 March, the island of the Gods fell into a deep silence. Outside of the resort the usual hustle and bustle of everyday life came to a halt. Bali’s International Airport closed, lights were turned off, people remained in-doors, TV networks were off-air, and many internet providers shut down during this special 24-hour period.

Come nightfall, when the stars lit up the beautiful Bali sky, AYANA invited guests to remember their special moment with a stargazing and grazing picnic on the lawn alongside a professional photoshoot with the Milky Way as a jaw dropping backdrop.

Although traditionally the rules are slightly more relaxed for tourists, most visitors acknowledge and respect the inimitable harmony that comes when an entire island is steeped in silence and enveloped in a dreamlike darkness. Staying in Bali during Nyepi must be experienced at least once in a lifetime, advises Lindsay Grace Kinniburgh, AYANA Resort and Spa, BALI’s Director of PR and Marketing Communications.

“The energy radiating over the island is almost hard to describe,” says Lindsay. “Being from the UK I experienced my first Nyepi three years ago and without a doubt, it is an incredibly thrilling yet humbling experience. There is a great sense of peace everywhere, a notable calmness throughout the day, while come nightfall the stars light up the entire sky. It truly is the best time to be in Bali, especially staying at AYANA or RIMBA as we are one of the only resorts on the island that can offer traditional cultural activities while still operating many of our facilities.”
