BA plane ‘took off with young woman locked in toilet’

egtmedia59A British Airways flight sped down the runway and took off from Amsterdam’s Schipol Airport with a female passenger trapped inside the toilet, according to reports yesterday.

The woman emerged from the toilet door as the aircraft gathered speed, only to be ordered back in by a “screaming air stewardess”, according to Britain’s Daily Mail. EGT_Artical Banner A 250x250

The paper said the plane took off for London Gatwick with the passenger still locked in the toilet.

Toilets are not fitted with seatbelts so passengers are not meant to be sitting on them when a plane takes off or lands, though it wouldn’t be the first time such a thing has happened.

The woman was allowed to return to her seat only after the flight was safely in the air and the seatbelt warning lights had been switched off, the paper reported.

Reports suggested the crew were in a hurry to take off after the flight was delayed for 30 minutes.

The paper quoted an unnamed passenger saying that the plane pulled away from the stand with some passengers still standing and struggling to find space for their bags in the overhead lockers.

As the plane lifted off, a female flight attendant strapped in her seat for takeoff was heard yelling at a young woman, aged in her early 20s, who was trying to emerge from the toilet. She was told to get back in.

Later, as the flight was approaching Gatwick, the pilot told passengers that they should return to their seats – stressing that the toilets should not be used during landing.
