Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and University of Melbourne’s Science Gallery is bringing together experts across accounting, innovation and STEM to shed much-needed light on how to ride, and not drown in, the next wave of technology.
As part of the three-month Perfection exhibition, the panel will debate the impact automation and robot-enabled tasks will have on the future workplace and the industries that will need to be reinvented.
“Professions are changing with leaps in technology, mobility and artificial intelligence and globalisation, contributing to unprecedented levels of uncertainty and competition,” said Rick Ellis, Chief Executive of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
“Our report, Future of Business, revealed that approximately 40% to 60% of jobs will change as a result of automation, augmentation and accessing flexible talent.
“This is an opportunity to delve into the challenges and opportunities that businesses and the accounting profession will face in the future and prepare for them.
“This includes questioning whether businesses and other organisations need to put in place ethics codes for their AI use or refreshed governance protocols.
“The accounting profession can play a positive role in shaping how AI is integrated into business, helping business leaders embrace and embed AI in socially responsible ways.”
The role of accounting professionals themselves is also changing, says Rick, and embracing technology and innovation will ensure they capitalise on the disruption in the profession.
“From our Strategic Review involving over 100 workshops with our members and stakeholders, we found that employers are hiring graduates across a broader range of disciplines to meet market demand for well-rounded accounting professionals.
“We are working on developing more flexible pathways into the CA Program and further embedding its relevance for the profession in a rapidly-changing world.”
