Backyard Travel, the online boutique tour operator specializing in insider tours throughout Asia, today announced a fun-filled family cycling tour through Burma’s spectacular backcountry.

The 14-day Burma Cycling Trip for Families showcases some of the country’s most pristine and beautiful countryside, following an easy route through royal cities, UNESCO sites, traditional villages – and even down rivers.

Launching from Mandalay, the tour begins with sightseeing in this iconic city, including a cycling tour of Sagaing, Ava and Amarapura, visiting temples, handicraft workshops and old palace ruins. After cruising down the Irrawaddy River, the tour continues on to UNESCO-listed Bagan, where a few days are spent cycling around this spectacular site, admiring ancient stupas, visiting local workshops and drifting down the Irrawaddy.

An optional dawn hot air balloon ride lets youngsters see the temples from above.

The tour next uncovers the famous Popa temple that sits atop a mountain, then stops at an elephant camp in Kalaw and heads to the glassy Inle Lake, with bicycle tours in each destination. The tour ends with three days in Yangon, with guided tours both by car and by bike, visiting big attractions and lesser-known cultural pockets, and pedaling through its bucolic outskirts.

This tour is perfect for active families with a sense of adventure,” says General Manager of Backyard Travel Trystan Trestchenkoff. “Aside from seeing the sights by bicycle, there are river cruises, a kayaking tour, a horse-and-cart ride and even a hot air balloon trip. And because we understand the needs of family travelers, the itinerary is flexible for families who want to customize.
