Backyard Travel, Asia’s most innovative tour company, has today released news of a new multi-country trip taking travelers on an epic journey through the mountainous regions of Northern Vietnam and the breathtaking beauty of Southwest China.

The new 19-day, 18-night tour begins in Hanoi, a former capital of Vietnam with a rich and intriguing history. While there, travelers can enjoy the romantic charm of tree-lined avenues and French architecture and take guided tours of the fascinating museums that tell the story of how Vietnam became the country it is today.

From Hanoi travelers will journey to Halong Bay, for an overnight cruise on one of the most majestic World Heritage Sites in Asia. Meals will be taken aboard the traditional junk and the boat will drop anchor for the night in one of the most scenic sunset/sunrise spots in the bay, allowing travelers to appreciate the beauty of each.

After Halong, the trip moves on to Lao Cai Province, home to a rich array of scenic towns and villages that have remained unchanged and uninfluenced by the outside world. Lao Cai is also home to the majestic rice terraces of Sapa, where travelers will be able to wander the fields and investigate rural life of local hill tribes such as the scenic Hmong village of Matra and Ta Phin.

The epic journey then moves across the border to Yunnan Province in China, where travelers will discover another sublime region of rice terraces which line the sides of majestic karst peaks and mountains. Yuanyang is also home to various hill tribes and here travelers will see a congregation of many various people at the daily market, including the Akha, Yi and Hani hill tribes.

From Yuanyang the multi-country tour moves on to Jianshui, an ancient garrison town that holds a variety of cultural treasures and picturesque scenery including the decadent 17-arch Twin Dragon Bridge which stands over the confluenceof the Luijiang and Tachong Rivers.

Next on this inspirational journey are the geological wonders of Shilin County and the Lunan Stone Forest, a set of dramatic karst formations which are grouped together within close proximity. Travelers will have the chance to hike through the lesser-visited Black Stone Forest’s endless rocky peaks.

Travelers will then fly on to Lijiang, a region of China that’s so far managed to withstand major development and still retains an aura of yesteryear. While based in Lijiang, travelers can enjoy time at the Mu Palace and Black Dragon Pond before moving to Shaxi – a region of China renowned for it’s breathtaking beauty.

Shaxi is another area where it appears time has stood still, and is a veritable paradise for travelers wanting to experience ancient China. The town provides wonderful views of the Jade Dragon Mountain and other treasures that will surely delight any cultural explorer. Before coming to rest in Kunming, the tour makes brief stops at both Shuanlang and Dali, two more atmospheric and picturesque regions.

“Our new multi-country tour takes travelers to enjoy the myriad enchantments of two unique regions of Southeast Asia,” said Backyard Travel’s General Manager Maeve Nolan. “We are delighted to pair together the charming destinations of Northern Vietnam and Southwest China to offer an eclectic mix of sites, sounds and smells that are sure to delight any cultural explorer hoping to experience the ‘old-world’ spots of Asia.”
