The Australian Ballet alongside Visit Victoria has today announced that the Latrobe Valley in regional Victoria will play host to the 2019 iteration of Ballet Under the Stars.

Ballet Under the Stars is The Australian Ballet’s free annual outdoor performance and provides people of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to experience world class ballet and a high- quality arts experience.

The event, which was last presented in Melbourne in 2014, is expected to draw ballet fans from Victoria and beyond, catering for seasoned ballet aficionados, but also new audiences who otherwise may not have the opportunity, means or access to attend ballet in a traditional theatre setting.

Visit Victoria Chief Executive Officer Peter Bingeman said that securing this event for Victoria is a huge win for local communities, the state and the wider public.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for regional Victoria with previous performances attracting around 9,000 people. It’s also a wonderful chance for everyone to experience ballet and the arts, so I encourage as many people to attend as possible.

“Through the Regional Events Fund, Visit Victoria has been able to fund more than 160 events across the state, which help to support regional communities, attract visitors and add to the expanding tapestry of offerings in Victoria,” said Mr Bingeman.

First presented in Melbourne in 1966, Ballet Under the Stars is now a proud tradition that has been performed in Sydney, Brisbane, Darwin and Canberra.

The program is proudly being supported by the Victorian Government’s $20 million Regional Events Fund which helps regional communities to attract and stage major events which drive visitation and boost the economy.

In the year ending March 2018, regional Victoria welcomed 15.6 million domestic overnight visitors and more than 526,000 international visitors.

Ballet Under the Stars will take place at Lardner Park in October 2019. More details on the event will be available soon.
