Ballot gives everyone the same chance of tickets

June 20, 2017 Destination Europe No Comments Email Email

Advance booking of individual tickets for the 2017/18 season will commence on Monday 12 June 2017. This will be the first standard season of concerts at the Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg’s new concert hall and landmark. Tickets will be available online at www.elbphilharmonie.de from 10:00. In response to the huge demand, tickets will no longer be sold immediately online for events organised by the Elbphilharmonie. Instead, orders will be taken online from 12 June until 1 July. All of the requests received during this period will be treated in the same way and tickets will be issued at random.

The newly introduced random online ticket ballot was initially used for subscriptions and a number of special concerts. As it met with such a positive response, the management team at HamburgMusik gGmbH, which is responsible for events organised by the Elbphilharmonie, decided to use this system for all of the concerts published in the annual programme for 2017/18.

General and Artistic Director Christoph Lieben-Seutter said: “Switching to online ordering with tickets being issued at random takes the stress out of booking. People who would like to come to a concert have three weeks to place an order.”

The deadline for online orders is 23:59 on 1 July 2017. Customers need to register on the website www.elbphilharmonie.de before they can select which tickets they would like. Whenever concerts are oversubscribed, tickets will be issued at random. Applicants will be informed as soon as possible after 1 July whether their order was successful and, if so, for which event(s). Ticket purchases must then be completed within ten days. To enable as many people as possible to purchase tickets in the coming season, each customer is still only allowed to buy – or order online – a maximum of four tickets per concert and ten tickets in total.

HamburgMusik is a non-profit company established by the City of Hamburg which manages approximately one third of all the events held at the new concert hall on the River Elbe. Information about the organiser of each concert can be found in the programme for the 2017/18 season and in the details about each concert on the website, www.elbphilharmonie.de. An MEDIA INFORMATION 2 of 2 overview of the HamburgMusik concerts is also available online at https://www.elbphilharmonie.de/de/programm/01-09-2017/EIV/.

Advance booking for events organised by NDR, the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg, the artists’ agency Konzertdirektion Dr. Rudolf Goette, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Resonanz and Hamburgische Vereinigung von Freunden der Kammermusik (Hamburg Friends of Chamber Music) will also commence at 10:00 on 12 June. Tickets for these events can be purchased online at www.elbphilharmonie.de or straight from the organisers and their websites.

Details of the programme for the 2017/18 season are available online at www.elbphilharmonie.com. More information about advance booking can be found at https://www.elbphilharmonie.de/en/how-to-book.
