Named one of the “25 Influential Chinese in Global Fashion” by Forbes China in 2010 and one of Debrett’s 100 Hong Kong in 2015, Barney is well-known for his couture designs conceived with a Hong Kong frame of mind. Duddell’s, well-known for connecting art and people over authentic Cantonese dining, brings Barney’s bold and delicate designs to their 2016 Chinese New Year cake boxes in celebration of the upcoming Year of the Monkey.

Duddell’s limited edition boxes feature the Monkey, a protector of evil on the Chinese zodiac calendar, surrounded by bamboo C a symbol of prosperity C and Chinese white pine, an emblem of longevity and immortality. Barney has depicted the Monkey as reaching out for immortality, symbolised by an auspicious peach known for bringing good fortune. Layered, laser cut motifs on the box’s lid echo the technologically advanced Swiss couture fabrics that Barney offers uniquely in Asia, reminiscent of the work that goes into each creation: the beading, the tailoring and the fitting. Barney has chosen to feature the propitious colours of lacquer red and rose gold, which bring about a perfect marriage of Eastern subtlety and Western sophistication that will certainly be a delight for the Lunar New Year.
