Beats meet bites at Taste’s first After Dark Party

Melbourne’s tastiest tracks will accompany its best gourmet bites thanks to a new music line-up at Taste of Melbourne in partnership with Electroluxfrom 30 November to 3 December 2017, including the inaugural After Dark Party.

Kicking off on Thursday 30 November, Australia’s pioneering female DJ Miss Goldie will take over the decks under the stars for Taste’s lavish 10th Birthday Bash, with scrumptious bouche from Melbourne’s top chefs, live DJs, and free-flowing fine wine as Melbourne’s favourite tastemakers gather at the MCG.

On Friday 1 December and Saturday 2 December, acclaimed funk-tronic duo GL and Melbourne’s favourite balladeer Fraser A. Gorman will transform Yarra Park into the city’s tastiest dancefloor for Taste’s first After Dark Party.

The inaugural parties will see cuisine and culture collide in a secret bohemian-styled stretch tent beneath the canopy of the trees. The adult playground will host retro-futuristic floor fillers and dulcet folk gems, alongside a special menu of sophisticated snacks from the festival’s favourite chefs, a welcome cocktail from gin experts Archie Rose, and wine and beer for a feast for all senses.

GL – made of much loved Melbourne singer Ella Thompson and multi-instrumentalist Graeme Pogson – and Torquay-raised Gorman will command the Yarra Park dance floor with a contrast of retro synthesisers, drum machines and dreamy vocals, soulful acoustic ballads and the warm twang of a slide guitar.

In the festival’s spirit of creative fusions, the club-like evenings will conclude days filled with exciting collaborative culinary events and experiences concocted by Melbourne’s favourite chefs with creative counterparts – from sculptors to illustrators, musicians and graffiti artists.

A selection of Melbourne’s most tasteful DJs will also be spinning succulent tunes for guests to enjoy across the site for the duration of the festival, including live mixes from Mike Gurrea, Sammy The Bullet, Horne Dogg, and popular PBS Radio hosts Vince PeachRick Howe and Richie 1250.

Taste Festival Australia director Kristy Austin said the After Dark Party and packed music lineup were part of the festival’s new colourful collision of art, entertainment and food.

“Melbourne is as famous for its great gigs and DJs as much as its cutting-edge restaurants and chefs. I’m so excited to have some of the city’s best live acts on board to keep the tunes pumping well after the exclusive daily masterclasses and gourmet picnics wrap up,” Ms Austin said.

After Dark Party tickets go on sale on 12 October and Birthday Bash tickets go on sale on 26 October. Stay up-to-date by signing up for the newsletter here.

After Dark Party is presented in association with PBS.
