Beaumont Hotel has practiced sustainability for generations

Respect for the environment and responsibility have been the core value at the Beaumont Hotel in Maastricht in the Netherlands for three generations. This family-run business impresses with a deep commitment to sustainable actions, which recently earned Green Globe re-certification.
“We feel that hotels serve as a central pillar in a community – a place where people come to meet each other, relax, and be inspired,” said Christophe Beaumont, Co-owner of the hotel. “Millions of people around the globe sleep in hotel beds every day, and an even larger number simply passes through. How can we make the biggest impact towards a more sustainable future? We have to be conscious about our input and output – that’s for sure. However, I feel that in the hospitality industry, we can make the biggest impact by creating a sense of awareness among our staff, guests, partners, suppliers, and all stakeholders. We are very proud about our achievement and the international recognition, and will continue to improve our sustainability performance systematically.”

To ensure a sustainable operation, the Beaumont Hotel only works with certified contractors, suppliers, and products. Energy use and reduction goals are strictly monitored and specified on a monthly basis. Solar panels are installed on the hotel roof to provide electricity for all LED lighting fixtures and warm water supply. Other good practices include a heat retrieval system in the shower drains and air circulators, low-flow toilets and tabs, use of locally-produced furniture and refurbished furniture from their own supply in the basement, use of non-toxic and eco-labeled cleaning products, and their own line of eco-friendly amenities. Guests are encouraged to use public transportation, bicycles, or e-scooters.

Community heritage and the preservation of the natural environment is part of the hotel’s sustainability policy. The Beaumont Hotel is actively involved with the community, contributing to their sustainable development. Maintaining the monumental building supports the conservation of their cultural heritage. Guests are invited to learn about the history, culture, and environment of the surroundings – local products and services are promoted.

The Beaumont Hotel is a member of “Natuurmonumenten,” a non-profit society dedicated to improve the quality of life in the Netherlands by preserving nature, landscape, and cultural history. Acquiring natural areas, the society can protect native animals and plants and enable people to enjoy the countryside by providing footpaths, cycle paths, observation points, and excursions.
