Belmond, with a fascinating mix portfolio of luxury travel experiences of hotels, trains, cruises and safaris, is working to double its portfolio and profits by 2020.
Maria Kuhn, Corporate Director of Communications, Belmond, said at a press conference in Mumbai on Thursday, that: “With a clearly defined strategy for next five years, we aim to double the size of our company and profits by increasing brand awareness and expanding global footprint.” Belmond is celebrating 40th anniversary with 46 properties, camps, cruises and trains.
The company has launched a new train Belmond Grand Hibernian in Ireland in August. The modern train can take 36 guests and provide sleeper facility to all on 3 and 4 night itineraries. Belmond is scheduled to launch Peru’s Belmond Andean Explorer train, South America’s first luxury sleeper train in May 2017. Two new luxury barges are scheduled to launch in summer 2017 to add to Belmond Afloat in France’s luxury fleet.
It has some exclusive destination hotels across Europe, Asia, Middle East and Africa. Ms Kuhn said: Some properties are so exclusive that one can’t replicate such ones anymore because of their unique location and space. “We have luxury master brands as well as collection brands and kind of hybrid a little bit. Most of our hotels are leisure destinations. Others necessarily provide at least a leisure quotient with emphasis on wellbeing, nature and culture.”
Eagle Island Lodge in Botswana provides authentic escape along with two supporting camps in the area that can be clubbed to make a 6 day trip into the wild.
Ms Kuhn said: “US and the UK are our lead markets. We’re also getting business from India, but are looking at growing it more. Establishing a Belmond hotel will definitely help in creating better awareness of the product on offer. It will happen at some time when the company finds a suitable place through organic or inorganic process. In the meanwhile, it is one of the markets along with China, from where we are looking for more guests to come.”
Ms Kuhn added that their company on the growth trend can reach up to 700 properties in the long term. Belmond was on three city (Mumbai, New Delhi and Bengaluru) roadshow last week with six representatives from Europe, Asia, Africa, Russia and South America. Belmond is represented by Heavens Portfolio in India.
