Best of Queensland meet with global tourism distributors

The best of Queensland tourism will be on display for 35 inbound tour operators and online travel agents who work in the state’s key international visitor markets during an Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) workshop supported by Qantas and Tourism and Events Queensland in Sydney today.  

Tourism and Events Queensland CEO Leanne Coddington said the forum would present to tourism distributers a range of Queensland products for consideration in future programmes.
“We’re delighted with the response from the travel distributors who have come from across the country to meet face-to-face with Queensland operators, forge relationships and work together to increase Queensland’s share of the inbound travel market,” Ms Coddington said.
“Following on from the Australian Tourism Exchange in Cairns in May and the inaugural Greater China Corroboree on the Gold Coast in June this workshop is another opportunity for industry to showcase products and negotiate deals with leading international buyers.
“Inbound tourism is Queensland’s second largest export earner with more than two million international visitors travelling to Queensland in the year ended March 2014 and spending almost $4 billion on trips.
“The number of international holidaymakers continued to grow in the year to March 2014 increasing three per cent to 1.4 million travellers.
“Tourism is one of the four pillars of the Queensland economy and our aim is to continue to build on this momentum and grow inbound tourism to the state.
“Forty-four Queensland businesses will be represented including accommodation providers, attractions and tour operators.”
ATEC Managing Director Peter Shelley said ATEC travel distributors including leading inbound tour operators and online travel agents provide a vital link in the chain to getting international visitors to the doorstep of Queensland’s tourism businesses.
“The international markets represented at the Best of Queensland workshop include some of Queensland’s most valuable international markets such as the UK, Europe, China and the USA,” Mr Shelley said.
“This is the first time the B2B event has been staged as a collaborative effort between the south and north Queensland branches of ATEC, TEQ and Qantas and presents an opportunity for leading Queensland suppliers to establish and grow commercially valuable relationships with a range of travel distributors.”
